Do you have an idea that follows one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG)? Can you imagine implementing this idea as a Six Sigma project? Then would your project serve humanity by positively impacting society and the environment?
We are not concerned with the range of your project or the scale of its impact. We are interested in a local project, in your country, in your region, in your city, in your neighbourhood. The project topic should be suitable for Six Sigma, the expected project benefit should be measurable and the project idea should have the power to motivate others for similar initiatives.

We first collect the ideas, then check their conformity, then their suitability for Six Sigma and finally their feasibility. In the final round three selected participants then implement their project in our Go Green Belt course – with the support of their sponsor. Upon successful implementation, the three finalists will receive our TUM Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Additionally, the projects are evaluated by our GoGB Committee and the winner additionally receives the GoGB Award.

In order to be considered for the Global Outreach Green Belt, the following criteria must be fulfilled:
The winning candidate will be assigned a Six Sigma Master Black Belt supervisor. This volunteer (from the global Black Belt Community) will sign a Letter of Understanding and must ensure that the existing TUM Lean Six-Sigma Yellow Belt requirements (project-story-book, sigmaGuide, presentations, sign-offs) are being followed. (Note: Projects may be Lean Six Sigma or just Six Sigma).
Upon completion of the course a project summary along with the identified problems, proposed improvements and subsequent control measures will be published via multiple media outlets.
As one of three selected candidates for the final round
The 2019 TUM Global Outreach Green Belt awardee is Tony Raju from India. After successful completion of the Yellow-Belt course via edX/TUM, Tony looked for a real project which would help to improve life in his local community. He applied for the TUM Global Outreach Green Belt and was the first candidate to be awarded in June 2019.
Tony’s project is at the CHC Sachivathomapuram is a rural hospital in the state of Kerala in India. CHC is one of the oldest hospitals in Kottayam district and it is a government-funded hospital so almost all medical service are free. Almost 85-90% of the patient who visit this hospital are below poverty line. There are 4 doctors (no specialization), 6 nurses and 4 non-medical staff available to treat approximately 2000 patients per week.
Although CHC Sachivathomapuram is one of the best in rural healthcare in India compared to others, Tony found multiple opportunities for improvement. For example, the average wait time is extremely long for patients waiting for a consultation. There is a very large volume of patients compared to the number of staff members, which can lead to poor medical service and very high workload for the lab. In addition, some key medicines are frequently unavailable.
Within the first phase of the project (DEFINE), Tony identified 3 areas which need to be researched/investigated:
Within the second phase (MEASURE) Tony mapped the relevant processes in his hospital, identified the presumed triggers of the problems and collected data on trigger and problems.

Congratulation to the 2020/2021 Technical University of Munich’s Global Outreach Green Belt Award Winner, Mr. David Olamide Awe for his project: Reduction of solid wastes from residential homes blocking drains and canals in Lagos (Nigeria).
This year’s application pool was very diverse, with projects from Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and Europe, covering such diverse topics as community waste disposal, health care, vehicle emissions, public transport, energy management systems, and education. The TUM GoGB Selection Committee chose four exemplary finalists, whose projects meet the mission of the TUM GoGB Award.
We congratulate all Finalists and Mr. Awe for his achievement. His project will be coached online by Master Black Belt, Dr. Reiner Hutwelker, and will be published in stages on the TUM Lean Six Sigma facebook page.

Environmental degradation caused by solid waste in Lagos (Nigeria) is increasingly alarming. An observed fact is the presence of solid waste particles in gutters and canals which are connected to residential apartments in particular. Thus, disruptions caused by fallow solid waste is felt in terms of waterlogged road networks, congestion, existence of pests and rodents in the environment. Such occurrence has diverse social, economic and demographic implications to the community. For a breakthrough the project will be focussed on: Oyadiran Estate along Commercial Avenue, Lagos
