Germany has a very good network of clinics and hospitals and is therefore very well prepared to deal with Corona. One important fact to bear in mind is that Germany has the highest number of intensive care and hospital beds among all EU countries. Public health decisions in Germany are data-driven and statistics are regularly updated and publicly available through the Robert Koch Institute (updated daily).
We want to move forward in an educated way that gives students the best possible class experience while respecting government regulations and best practices for safety. That means our preference is to hold classes in-person, but we always have a digital back-up plan.
For applicants who are having difficulty arranging tests, we’d like to point out that ETS, the company that offers the TOEFL English test and the GRE, now has a web-based solution for test-takers in regions affected by the current public health situation. Please have a look here.
Our application deadlines are currently unaffected, and most everything can be completed digitally, so please continue to apply online via TUMonline. If you completed your Bachelor’s outside the EU, please allow for additional time as you will need a preliminary documentation certificate (more info here).
We regularly offer webinars and are happy to get in touch with you on a one-to-one basis virtually. You can see our upcoming digital events here.
Yes. In terms of managing the public health challenges associated with Covid-19, Germany is considered to have done a good job. Future students should plan on coming to Germany and can feel safe doing so.

According to §10 of the Bavarian Higher Education Law (BayHSchG) the teaching quality is regularly evaluated through student questionnaires.
The objective of the evaluation is the continuous improvement of teaching at the TUM SoM. The teaching evaluation data is the basis for:
The teaching evaluation gives students the possibility to actively contribute to the improvement of teaching.
TUM SoM students can review teaching evaluation results in the office of the quality management (1553). A previous arranged appointment and a valid student identity card are mandatory. For making an appointment please contact with a short e-mail to lehrevaluation@wi.tum.de.
Each semester students are asked to evaluate the courses they visited. The survey is anonymous and is executed through a standardized questionnaire, which varies depending on the format of the course (lecture, tutorial, seminar, internship and excursion). The questionnaires are available in English. On a 5-point Likert scale students give feedback about the extent of agreement and disagreement to different areas (e.g. conception and structure, knowledge impartment, learning environment, appropriate degree of difficulty and acquisition of competency). Open text fields allow for further ideas of improvement and comments. For each course and question the following measures will be calculated:
Completing the online-questionnaire requires approximately 5-10 minutes. A PDF-report comprising the results of the survey will be generated for each course. As soon as results are available the report including the comments will be sent to the respective lecturers. Lecturers with outstanding results will be suggested by the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs for the “Best Teaching Award”, which is awarded every year during the “Tag der Fakultät”.
If you have any questions or if you want to evaluate an additional course, please contact us under youngprofessionals@lll.tum.de.
