The one-day on-site QL3 overview course ‘Quantum Technologies – Overview Course for Managers and Leaders’ introduces quantum sensing, quantum communication, quantum simulation, and quantum computation technologies to executives in industry.

Participants will review, in particular, the potential and limitations of quantum technologies and discuss the state of quantum technology today and the prospects for the next three to five years. Based on these insights, participants will learn to validate current examples from media coverage of quantum technologies.

After the course, participants will:

  • have a basic understanding of quantum mechanical concepts;
  • have learned the key terms used to describe quantum technologies, which enables them to participate in technical discussions;
  • be able to distinguish between hype and reality of quantum applications;
  • have developed an awareness of quantum technologies and can realistically judge their present and future potential.

Why this program?

Quantum technologies are a firmly established and strongly growing scientific research field with great application potential for industry. The current challenge facing Germany and Europe is to transfer the knowledge and technological expertise on quantum systems from university laboratories and research institutes to the private sector. Experts and executives in high-tech industry will play a key role, as they must recognize and implement the specific potential of quantum technologies for their respective companies.

  • Participants will get to know the potentials and limitations of quantum technologies:
    It will provide an overview of the quantum technology landscape focusing on potentials and limitations. Based on these insights, participants learn to validate current examples from media coverage on quantum technologies.
  • The program will give evidence-based and practical input:
    Guided by real-world use cases, the basic intuition behind these technologies is presented, focusing on a qualitative understanding.
  • The program uses the newest Ed-Tech methods:
    Didactics experts introduce complex topics supported by visualizations and VR applications. Visualizations help to convey abstract concepts, while virtual reality applications show exemplary realizations of quantum technologies from Munich research groups.
  • Two renowned universities join forces:
    The program is part of QL3, a project of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). In close cooperation with an industrial advisory board and didactic experts, globally recognized researchers seek to create comprehensive concepts and extra-occupational training programs. In this way, this future-relevant topic can be promoted at the interface of science and product development.
  • Participants can broaden their network:
    Participants can establish contacts with experts from the Munich universities, Optional separate networking events can also be taken advantage of, facilitating contact between companies and experts at local research institutions and offering a long-term connection to the local quantum technologies landscape.
  • The program will continuously be evaluated and further developed:
    The course is monitored for its didactical efficiency and is constantly improved upon participants’ feedback.
